The SLIC 4th Quarterly competition was held and the judge was Tony Myers, from South Liverpool PS. Sixty-four prints were entered from 11 members. In the final Quarterly Maureen Glynn gained the highest score to carry forward and Norman Piper gained the bonus points, for 'Judges Choice', with Symbol # 30. The total scores over the 4 Quarterlies of 2003 - 2004 make our overall winner Chris Widdall with 230 points closely followed by Maureen Glynn with 229 points. Congratulations to both members!

The Bramhall PS Exhibition was held during the second week in November.

The Annual Open Creative Print Competition was held on the opening night. Over the past few years SLIC members have been quite succesful and this year was no exception. Norman Piper took the first prize, winning £50 and a printer, with the print Contemplating Totality and Infinity. Maureen Glynn won the third prize of £20 with her print Below Stairs. Congratulations to both winners on a well-deserved result.

The annual inter club Print Panel and Laughton Slide Trophy competitions were held on the Thursday evening. Gordon Jenkins from Chorley was the judge. SLIC has won the Print Panel trophy previously but this was the first time we had entered slides.

SLIC's was the winning entry in the print panels and was entitled Windows. The individual prints were For King or Parliament by Norman Piper, The Church of St. Mary and St. Nicholas by Verna Piper, 'Carnevale' in Venice by Maureen Glynn and Twilight on the Quays by Sheila Goodyear.

We tried to make it a hat-trick, this year, but couldn't quite make it! 11 clubs competed for the Laughton Trophy, with 6 slides from each. Chapel CC won and SLIC was in joint 4th place with Bramhall PS and Bury PS. Our slide achieving the highest score was Resurrection by Norman Piper.

The first picture, below, shows Sheila Goodyear receiving the printer on behalf of Norman Piper. Also in the picture are David Marsh (one of the judges), Dil Smith and the Exhibition's sponsor (from Cartridge World of Bramhall who had donated the prize). The second picture shows Maureen Glynn and Sheila Goodyear receiving the trophy for the Print Panel competition from the judge, Gordon Jenkins. Also in the picture is Dil Smith.

On Tuesday (16th Nov) night we took a SLIC entry, to Rochdale & District CC, for the Slide Knockout Competition (it's a bit like playing poker with slides!). The judge was Tillman Kleinhans ARPS, DPAGB, from St Helens. Nine clubs took part. There are 5 slides in each round and the club with the lowest score in the first round drops out, then in the second round the 2 lowest-scoring clubs go and, after the final round the two clubs with the highest scores go head to head with a single slide each. All nail-biting stuff! The good news was, that if the scores from all the rounds had been totalled, we would have won! The bad news was that we missed being in the final 2 clubs by just one point! I'm going to get more practise with the cards before next year! It was a very tight finish in the final round with Oldham CC achieving 83 points and Bury PS 82 ( SLIC had 81). Oldham CC went on to win the trophy with Frozen Beauty by Ian Greenhalgh.

One of our slides, Lift Off! scored 20 points, and two, I Got Rhythm! and Resurrection, scored 19 points.

Cast your minds (and your eyes on this page!) back to May and you will remember that two of our members received gold medals, for their accepted prints, in The Hasselblad Austrian Super Circuit (FIAP). The awards ceremony was held in Austria in November and our picture shows Mike Lawrence and Chris Widdall with their medals on that occasion.
(Thanks to John Widdall for the photograph)

The PAGB adjudications for the 'C' and the 'M' awards were held in Burton on Trent on the 27th November. Three SLIC members, Maureen Glynn, Verna Piper and myself (Sheila Goodyear) nervously trekked down there with our 10 prints and, I'm happy to report, came home with our little blue badges proclaiming us as worthy of the CPAGB award! Also receiving it that day were our friends, Brian Lomas from North Manchester CC and Oldham PS, and (in his absence) George Steele from Rochdale PS. It was a great day and we saw some brilliant photographs.

Here is our happy little trio after the awards ............... click on the names underneath to see a photo of each receiving the award. (Thanks to Norman for the pictures)
