What's been happening in SLIC month by month
January 2004
The January meeting saw us starting the new year with member Norman Piper taking the lead in a demonstration and discussion on making monochrome images in the 'lightroom'. As usual many members had alternative methods and solutions to problems to offer.

February 2004
At the February meeting we had our final Quarterly competiton in the SLIC year. Details and pictures can be seen on the Results page. Suffice it to say that Tony Myers of South Liverpool PS did a great job in judging the 64 prints that were entered. The bonus points for best print of the day went to Norman Piper. Tony also brought a selection of his own interesting photographs of fires and firefighters to show us.

March 2004
SLIC member John Widdall brought his talk on 'Panoramas' to our March meeting. This was done with the aid of digitally projected images. Thanks must go to him for a thoroughly researched and illustrated talk covering a brief history, equipment (specialised or home-improvised) and computer software to download from the web with the many ways of applying it. Following this he showed us projected images of examples of panoramas made by himself and Chris. All of which were superb. Eb Swarbrick, another member, had brought printed copies of equally superb panoramas made by himself and fellow member Richard Lodge. The longest of these must have been over 3 metres! Needless to say, it wasn't framed!
Our thanks to all the members who took part.....it was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

April 2004

Artist Millie Chadband visited SLIC this month bringing with her a selection of her own paintings and drawings. The first half of the afternoon was spent looking at Millie's work and discussing with her what drives her own art practice. A stimulating and lively session ensued in which she was ably aided and abetted by husband Bill. In the second half of the meeting Millie appraised a number of prints (offered by various members) from the artist's perspective rather than from the photographer's. This ensured another interesting debate.
Another successful and thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. Our thanks to Millie and to Bill who provided the 'reject' photographs and much of the laughter. Thanks!

May 2004

This was a busy day ............... the First Quarterly Competition followed by the SLIC AGM.
Our thanks to David Platt, DPAGB, from St. Helens CC, who did sterling duty as our judge (details on the Results Page). The Judge's bonus points for 'Best Image' went to Chris Widdall. His job was made doubly difficult because we'd introduced digitally projected images, into the competition, for the first time. Suffice it to say that there are still some 'technical' problems to be ironed out so it's a case of, 'back to the drawing - board', for the present.

The AGM followed and the existing committee was returned for another year.

June 2004

It seemed a shame to spend such a beautiful summer's day in an upstairs room from which all light had been ruthlessly excluded but it was well worth it. Marion Waine and John Rowell, both members of Wilmslow Guild AV Group, visited SLIC to talk about, and show us, their Audio - Visual sequences. The afternoon was a mixture of technical/production tips interspersed by their own AVs, the subjects of which, unbelievably, ranged from the chimney of an old cottage to the Indian sub-continent. They demonstrated to us that 'simple' is often best, or most effective.
Our thanks to both Marion and John for being so willing to share their enthusiasm and expertise making it a most interesting and enjoyable afternoon.

Maureen Glynn is here pictured receiving the Martin Avery Trophy (won by SLIC at South Liverpool PS in May) from Club Chairman Norman Piper. Maureen received 20 marks for each of her 2 prints and will hold the club trophy for the next 12 months.

July 2004
Our meeting this month was held at the Edenfield Community Centre and we had Marjorie and Tony Furmston from t'other side o'the Penines, in Normanton, to speak to us. Marjorie has what might be called a wicked sense of humour and had us laughing at her anecdotes throughout the afternoon. They brought some wonderful pictures, of all types, to share with us and rounded it off with a short digital AV sequence.
Our thanks to both Marjorie and Tony for an entertaining afternoon.
Also, at this meeting, Chris Widdall was presented with her trophy for winning the highest number of points in the Quarterly competitions.

August 2004

I have to confess to having missed this month's meeting which was the Second Quarterly Competition but I'm informed, by those that were there, that I missed a really enjoyable afternoon.
Our thanks go to the judge, Graham Dean from Darwen CC, who managed to mark all the prints whilst at the same time entertaining the club with a variety of amusing stories.
Graham is pictured here with the print, by Mike Lawrence, that he judged best in the competition and to which he awarded the bonus points.
Results, and the winning print, on the Results Page.

September 2004
Barry
Our guest speaker this month should have been Cath McKinty, from Corby, but unforeseen problems prevented her from visiting us at this month's meeting of SLIC. Hopefully, her visit can be re-arranged for the spring of next year.

At very short notice Barry Colquhoun,
FRPS FBIPP DPAGB, stepped into the breach and gave us a talk about getting the most out of RAW files from the digital camera, and actions (to make life easier!). This was followed by an entertaining and humorous AV sequence to round off the afternoon.
Our thanks to Barry for putting together, at such short notice, an afternoon's talk that was by turns instructive and humorous.

October 2004
For the last couple of years October has been the meeting at which we have looked at the AV sequences made by members over the past 12 months. The meeting was well attended and there were numerous AVs to enjoy and discuss.

November 2004

This month's meeting saw our Third Quarterly competition which was judged by George Steele LRPS. (See the Results page for the details and high scoring pictures).
George had constructive and helpful comments to make, about all the images which passed in front of him, together with some odd snippets of information that he shared with us. This made an entertaining and informative mix which was enjoyed by everyone present. Did you know that 'rugose' means wrinkled and creased? Not a lot of SLIC members did, either! But we do now ........... thanks to George!
I hope George enjoyed the meeting as much as the members did (particularly Chris, who picked up the bonus points this month) and we hope to welcome him, along with Monica, again soon.

December 2004

Well, unfortunately, Father Christmas couldn't get to the SLIC party (he said that he was far too busy!) but, despite that, we still managed to have a good time with plenty of laughs!

Helen put together another quiz, which brought hysterical laughter from those of us who had trouble finding a question that we could answer! Most of the time, as at all the best parties, was spent chatting with friends, eating and drinking. The only camera, in sight, was mine. Take a look at the 'pics from the party'.
